Bringing Kindness into the office

Dec 10, 2018

Bringing Kindness Back to the Office

“To cultivate kindness is a valuable part of the business of life.” — Samuel Johnson

They are an award-winning mentoring and leadership group. Yes, the Roundtable garnered some impressive commendations this year, including the Micro Business Award at RBC’s Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards presented by Women of Influence, and no less than 3 Stevie Awards, including Employee of the Year. Beyond helping others to bring in great leadership, these remarkable women are also doing something right in their very own offices as well!

In keeping with exceptional leadership, one of their continuing initiatives is to promote a belief in kindness and the role that leading with the heart plays in our business, not just our personal lives. In the past, they have jumped on board with my work in kindness advocacy to help ‘spread the kindness’ during Random Acts of Kindness week each February, and I have enjoyed being part of their holiday 12 daysofbizrak for the last three years. This year The Roundtable is doing something a little different: a Holiday Happiness Guide that incorporates all the kindness of BizRAK and more! It’s their way to say thank you for a decade at the Roundtable.

“It’s so easy, at this time of year, to be overwhelmed with everything we have to juggle both personally and professionally. Our team saw the opportunity to build on the fun we’ve had with BizRAK by providing our tribe with ways to bring more joy and less stress to the holiday season. With the Holiday Happiness Guide we’ve combined the best of BizRAK with some great time savers and tips for every part of the holiday to do list. There’s something for everyone!” - Glain Roberts-McCabe, Founder & President

The dates for Holiday Happiness week are December 10 — 14, 2018. The week is about bringing the spirit of kindness to the office, to holiday pot lucks, and most importantly to yourself. “For the last three years, we have been focused on encouraging people to spread kindness at work. This year, we wanted to practice what we preach and spread some kindness ourselves. Our Holiday Happiness Guide is a gift to our community, and we hope it will be shared broadly to make the holidays a little better for everyone.” – Kate Salmon, Senior Manager, Marketing

And to all of those corporate scrooches who say ‘bah humbug’ to Kind Act initiatives, a gentle reminder that such actions really do make a difference in the office and, by extension in the community. Put simply, kindness always makes a difference to someone, and quite often to more than one; it’s called the ripple effect. The simple act of kindness has been known to accomplish the following:

- Increases employee engagement
- Cements relationships between clients and co-workers
- Boosts serotonin levels
- It’s good for the heart
And, last but not least, a small act of kindness can literally make someone’s day!

Won’t you join these coaching rock stars and follow their daily posts to bring more kindness into your holidays? It may just contribute to some ‘jolly good feelings’ at the office over the holiday season, and don’t we all deserve that?
